Peterborough United earned a battling draw against former Premier League side Birmingham City at St Andrews.

Having only conceded one League goal at home this season, things looked ominous for Posh when Birmingham opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Marlon King tucked away David Murphy`s cross. Birmingham dominated the first half and exploited Peterborough`s lack of width as they overwhelmed the Posh fullbacks with their own wingers who were assisted by the overlapping Blues fullbacks – David Murphy having an outstanding game overlapping and assisting the tricky Chilean winger, Jean Beausejour, down the Blues left.

The Blues had a few other chances to extend their lead as Chris Burke headed wide and King hit a shot wide of Paul Jones` post.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson did try to counter-act the threat coming down the wings by reverting to a 4-4-2 formation but it wasn`t until changes were made in the second half that Posh started to combat that threat.

With Craig Alcock reverting to right back in place of Mark Little and Tom Kennedy coming on at left back, Posh looked more comfortable defensively. However, Posh still seemed to struggle going forward until the introduction of Emile Sinclair and it was a change that worked wonders. Within two minutes of his introduction, Posh won a freekick on the edge of the Birmingham penalty area when George Boyd was brought down.

Up stepped Posh`s freekick expert Grant McCann who sent a stunning shot past the wall and into the goalkeepers top left hand corner for the equalising goal.

This was only the second goal Birmingham had conceded at home in the League and it was an amazing 100th League goal this year for Posh!

Both sides pressed for the winner but it was the home side who nearly snatched it when Nikola Zigic had an attempt on goal, only to be stopped by an offside flag.
