Ahead of Peterborough United`s visit to Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, Vital Posh looks at the ground we will be visiting plus parking, train info and drinking / eating recommendations.

The Stadium

The City Ground is the proud stadium on once mighty Nottingham Forest. It has an all seated capacity of 30,576.

Sitting on the south bank of the River Trent, it resides just one mile from Nottingham City Centre.

The ground had both ends re-developed in the 1990`s. One of the stands in the ground is named after their most famous manager?Brian Clough. Away fans are housed in the Bridgford Stand.

Nottingham Forest – The City Ground

Away Supporters

Up to 4,750 away supporters can be housed in the lower tier of the Bridgford Stand.

It provides a good view and with an element of Forest fans close to the away end providing banter, it usually adds up to a good atmosphere.

Be warned if you like to stand up?it has been known for Forest stewards to throw fans out for standing up during the game!

Parking

If you plan to drive, please note, there is very limited parking at the ground with the majority of spaces reserved for away coaches, disabled, match officials and club officials.

Suggested places to park are:

Nottingham Forest FC Car Parks:-
– Meadow Lane (Notts County Ground) – £3 per car.
– Victoria Embankment – £4 per car and very limited availability

– Cattlemarket Pay & Display – £3 per car
– Lady Bay Sports Ground (Notts Rugby Club) NG2 5AA – £5 per car.

Train

Vital Posh could find NO TRAINS TRAVELLING FROM PETERBOROUGH TO NOTTINGHAM on Boxing Day!!

Drinking & Eating

Nearly all pubs near to the ground are for home fans only. Possibly the nearest bar that caters for away fans is the nearby Meadow Lane Sports Bar based at the Notts County Football ground?a mere 5 minute walk from the City Ground.

There is also the Nottingham Rowing Club nearby which usually allows away fans in at a charge of £1.

The city centre is about a 10 minute walk from the ground and you will be able to find a few places to visit. The Olde Trip To Jerusalem, The Castle (in Castle Street), Salutation Inn (on Hounds Gate), and The Round House (in Royal Standard Place) should all be open.

One other pub which may be open as normal is the Canalhouse which surprisingly sits alongside the canal and it even has part of canal inlet running through the inside of the pub! It also gets a mention in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.

PLEASE NOTE, THAT AS THIS IS BOXING DAY, THE ‘USUAL` PLACES TO DRINK AND PARK MAY NOT BE OPEN.
