Well who would have predicted that would be such a close run thing?

Who`d have believed that Posh, on a long unbeaten run would be pushed so close to the wire by the non-league team?

However, before we move on we`d like to congratulate AFC Hornchurch on a smashing performance and wish them well for the future; they did themselves, their supporters and the tradition of the cup proud.

As predicted, Darren Ferguson rested his top scorer for this cup clash giving Craig Mackail-Smith only a place on the bench.

Posh started the game well, making all the early running nd the Hornchurch keeper had to produce the games first save, from Dominic Green, as early as the second minute.

It should have provided Posh with the springboard to mount a determined assault on the home sides goal but plucky Hornchurch were having none of it and Kris Lee could, tomorrow, be celebrating hero status if his ninth minute shot had gone in instead of over the bar.

Boyd, as Posh pushed forward, had a shot cleared off the line before us travelling supporters thought we were about to become another Goliath in this competition.

Thankfully, the officials saw that Dean Green had handled Lee`s cross when forcing it over the line.

As more and more time passed, you sensed the home side were going to take us back to London Road for a replay but Mackail-Smith, originally only on the bench, came on to score a last gaps winner to send us into round two.

The goal came after the Hornchurch keeper spilled a cross and Mackail-Smith, with his predator`s instinct, forced the ball over the line. However, with some six minutes of stoppage time to play, our hearts were in our mouths before the shrill blast from the referee`s whistle ended any hopes the home side had of equalising.

It`s great to be in round two but can we not make it so nerve-wracking next time please!
