Ajose Interesting Stevenage

Stevenage are showing an interest in Peterborough United forward Nicky Ajose.

Ajose signed for Posh last summer for a reported £300,000 from Manchester United. He’d shown great potential the previous season helping Bury to promotion from League Two whilst on loan from United before moving from one Ferguson to another.

Despite starting last season as the leading striker, his Posh debut lasted less than 30 minutes after suffering an injury.

Unfortunately for Ajose, this opened the door to other players. As he struggled to get back into the side, he went out on loan initially to gain match fitness. He had stints at League One sides Scunthorpe and Bury but had a torrid time at both clubs.

He is one of a few Posh players who are out of Darren Fergusons plans for the forthcoming season and with Ajose still being young, is better off moving to gain first team experience rather than ruining a once promising career.

Unlike some players Posh have had in the past who preferred to pick up a wage packet rather than playing, Ajose looks like he’d prefer to have a career in football.

Last night [Wednesday 18th July], Ajose played for 45 minutes for Stevenage against Tottenham Hotspur in a friendly in front of over 5,000 fans.

Stevenage played two completely different teams in each half with Ajose playing in the first half in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Luke Freeman, a rumoured target for Posh this summer, also played in the first half for Stevenage.

The match was tied 0-0 at half time, before two goals in the second half from Sigurdsson and a deflected shot by substitute Falque wrapped up the win for Spurs.
