All Quiet On The Transfer Front

Many of Peterborough Untied’s rivals have started to add players to their squad for the League One season that lies ahead, but Posh seem to be taking their time in any business that may take place, with players joining and leaving the club.

But as expected there has been no shortage in rumours of players coming to the club, with the strongest being the return of midfielder Jack Payne, as Barry Fry confirmed that the club have had a bid rejected for the 21 year old, who spent the back end of last season on loan at London Road. Many fans took an instant liking to Payne, with his clear ability to pass the ball and retain possession, as well as his ability to work hard for the team to win the ball off opponents. He made his Gillingham debut against Chester City in 2008, and went on to play 101 games for the club, scoring 5 goals in the process. He played for Posh 14 times in his loan spell, and many Posh fans will be hoping to see him add to that total next season.

Another rumour doing the rounds has been a regular occurrence over the last few years. Luke Freeman has been linked with Posh a number of times, and there have been reports suggesting the club could renew their interest this summer. The 21 year old winger joined Stevenage in 2011 initially on loan, but signed permanently for the club in 2012. He has played 58 games for Posh’s League 1 rivals, scoring 8 goals. He has represented England at Under 16 and 17 level, but will he be on his way to London Road this summer? Only time will tell..

Lyle Taylor of Falkirk scored 24 goals in 34 games last season, and has been linked with a move to The Posh this summer. The striker has played English football before, he played 29 games for AFC Bournemouth, but failed to find the back of the net. He was loaned out to 3 non league sides before being released at the end of his contract. But could Posh take a chance on him this summer?

Marlon Pack, 22, of Cheltenham, and Ryan Burge, 24, formerly of Port Vale are both central midfielders that have been linked with moves to Peterborough United this summer. Pack has attracted interest from a number of Championship and League One clubs already the summer, and looks set to leave Cheltenham Town in the near future. Whereas Burge left Port Vale mid way through last season, following a fall out with the club, and he has spoke of his interest in moving to Posh, or to a Championship club.

In terms of players leaving the club, the 2 most notable players looking set to leave the club are Tommy Rowe, who captained the side for a lot of last season, and DR Congo International centre back Gabriel Zakuani, who rejected a new deal at the end of last season searching for a move back to the Championship, to bolster his chances of remaining in the plans of DR Congo manager Claude Le Roy. Rowe has played 141 games for Posh, scoring 16 goals. While Zakuani has pulled on the Posh shirt a total of 165 times, both on loan at the club and since he signed permanently. Zakuani and Rowe (both pictured below) have been fantastic servants over recent years and Vital Posh wishes them both all the best for the future, should they leave the club this summer.

Peterborough United listed a number of players at the end of last season. Emile Sinclair, Tyrone Barnett, Daniel Kearns, Nicky Ajose were transfer listed, whilst right back Mark Little rejected a new contract and will leave the club. The Posh have accepted 2 bids from league 1 teams for striker Emile Sinclair, but the striker has been reluctant to leave the club, probably due to his wage, that other league one teams are not able to give him. The striker (below) hasn’t had the best of times since joining the club from Macclesfield Town. He scored a brace on his debut at home to Burnley in 2011, but only went on to score 11 more goals, taking his tally to 13 in 47 games for the Posh. He did have one memorable moment for Posh in the season just gone for Posh, scoring a hat trick at promoted side Hull City, in a game that saw Posh win 3-1. However Sinclair was transfer listed and shipped out on loan following his part in going out to night clubs, after being under strict instruction not too, by boss Darren Ferguson.

Sinclair’s partner in crime, Tyrone Barnett, was also sent out on loan and transfer listed by Posh after going out drinking with team mates. The misfiring striker went out on loan to Ipswich Town, and stated that he hoped he’d never have to return to London Road, that lost him the support of any Posh fans that still liked him at that point. But he sustained an injury whilst playing in a friendly for the Tractor Boys, and his loan was terminated. Darren Ferguson went back on saying the striker would never play for the club again, and gave him a second chance a few months later, and the striker played a hand full of games towards the back end of what turned out to be a bad season for Posh. Rumours of a return to Ipswich have been circulating of late but no concrete bid has been made, and the target man is still a part of the Peterborough United squad.

Irish winger Daniel Kearns hasn’t been given much of a chance to show what he can do in a Posh shirt, but when he did he looked impressive. But he was loaned out to York City for a spell in League 2, and played 9 times for the club, before going on loan to Rotherham. But injury has been his downfall and he’s had a torrid season because of it.

Former Manchester United striker Nicky Ajose has also had a nightmare since he joined Peterborough. He played around 20 minutes of his debut before going off with an injury. And he hasn’t been restored to the team since then. He has been on loan at Scunthorpe, Chesterfield, Crawley Town and Bury, where he failed to score goals on a regular basis. It is likely that Kearns and Ajose will leave the club this summer if the right bid comes in.

So, who will we sign? And who will leave? We’ll just have to wait and see, but Vital Posh will bring you the news on any signings or departures as soon as they happen!
