Another Match, Another Injury

Peterborough United’s plans for the new season were hit again when yet another player suffered an injury.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing pulled up with a hamstring injury early in the game against Stevenage on Saturday. He will go for a scan on Monday [6th August] to determine the full extent of the injury but he could be out of action anything between two weeks and two months!

Posh boss Darren Ferguson said after the 1-1 draw with Stevenage: “Nat`s injury is a big worry.

“We`ll get him a scan on Monday to find out the extent of the injury, but everyone here could see he pulled his hamstring.

“It`s very unlikely he`ll make the start of the season. You`re looking at a couple of weeks out as the best case scenario and if he has torn it badly, it will be a lot longer.

“I never like to see muscle injuries and it is something he has had problems with in the past but his medical and scan before we signed him were all clear.”

One Injury After Another!

Posh certainly are having a lot of bad luck on the injury front this pre-season.

Striker Emile Sinclair has been injured since the end of last season but he has now started training again and could be fit in time for the first league game of the season at Leicester City.

Left-back Tommy Rowe dislocated his shoulder in the recent win over St Neots and will be out of action for a couple of months. Fellow full-back Craig Alcock has yet to participate in a pre-season match as he has a back problem. It is hopeful he will make his first appearance of pre-season in the final friendly against Manchester United.

Young Irish lad Danny Kearns picked up what looked like a nasty injury in the recent 2-0 defeat by Aston Villa. He had looked very lively during the pre-season games so far and looked like he could be heading for a good season. This injury is a set back but luckily, the injury isn’t as bad as first thought. He is aiming to be fit for the Leicester City game on 18th August.
