Peterborough United striker Luke James has finally departed the club for good!

Luke James celebrates his first League goal for Posh v Doncaster

Posh have finally seen the back of striker Luke James.

Signed for a reported £500,000 from Hartlepool United in 2014, James only managed to score two goals for Posh in 34 appearances! He last appeared in a Posh shirt in April 2015 when Posh drew one-all against Crewe Alexandra at the ABAX Stadium.

The last two seasons has seen the 22-year-old head out on loan. Firstly, he went to Bradford City on an initial season-loan in 2015-16 but after failing to make many appearances for the Bantams, Posh recalled him in the January and sent him to Hartlepool to get regular match time.

Last season saw him go out on a season loan again but this time it was to Bristol Rovers. He was a regular in the side?but mainly featured as a substitute!

James was the subject of a double bid from Rovers which included fellow striker Tom Nichols but Posh turned the offer down.

After that failed bid by Rovers, another Rovers side came in for him. This time it was new League Two side Forest Green Rovers. They managed to negotiate a free transfer for the striker and signed him on a two-year contract.

Former Posh manager Mark Cooper is now the manager at The New Lawn and he was delighted to bring the striker to Gloucestershire as he said: “We needed another forward who could play in a variety of positions who could add to our options. Luke scored lots of goals at Hartlepool – and we followed his career as we always knew he was a clever player.

“A move to Forest Green Rovers for Luke was about joining an exciting, progressive club where he can get back into a goal scoring mentality.”

After agreeing terms at FGR, James said: “I’m very excited to be joining FGR. I`ve heard a lot about the club and how they want to go forward so I`m glad it`s finally over the line and I can get going.

“From speaking to the manager and players they all said it’s moving in the right direction which is good to hear and when they came knocking I just couldn’t say no.”
