Peterborough United are reportedly one of a host of English teams who are keeping tabs on Shamrock Rovers striker Karl Sheppard.

The former Everton youngster is out of contract at the end of the month and the news has alerted clubs to his possible availability.

As well as Posh, Sunderland, Blackpool, Cardiff and Watford are all thought to be interested in the Republic of Ireland Under 21 international.

If Sheppard were to leave Shamrock Rovers, minimal compensation would be required as he has only been at the Irish club for a year having joined them on a free transfer.

Shamrock Rovers are currently playing in the Europa League where his performances have got him noticed and he will again try to shine this week when they have another Europa match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Sheppard’s agent isn’t surprised that clubs are interested in his client as he told www.skysports.com: ‘Karl’s had a great season for Shamrock, he’s scored 10 goals and is the first striker name on their team sheet.

‘He’s also been rewarded with a Republic of Ireland U21 cap recently for his hard work.

‘He’s out of contract in December, so of course there’s significant interest in him from England.’

What do you think? Do Posh need another forward? Is Fergie looking to replace Ajose or Ball with a newcomer?
