Transfer listed Peterborough United striker Tyrone Barnett is attracting interest from Championship sides.

Tyrone Barnett v Shrewsbury

There have been a number of enquiries for million pound man Tyrone Barnett but it would mean a big loss for Posh if they are to rid themselves of an expensive mistake.

Barry Fry confirmed the interest in Barnett when saying: “There has been more interest in Tyrone than any other player we transfer-listed”.

Signed for £1.1 million from Crawley Town, Barnett failed to claim a regular starting spot in the first team. This was partly down to picking up injuries and also off-field events which saw the player along with a few others suspended by the club.

Since that point, he has only ever been on the fringes of the team when he has been at the club. He has spent time away from the club, firstly at Ipswich Town, who seemed impressed with him before he suffered an injury, and then, at the end of last season, he was at Bristol City. Posh have received around £200,000 in loan fees but even if you add that on to whatever fee they get for the player when they do finally sell him, it will be a loss overall.

“Obviously we are not going to get our money back for him, but I have spoken to a couple of Championship clubs about him so you never know something could happen,” continued Fry.

“Overall we have a good record with signing strikers and selling them for a good profit, but you can`t get it right every time.

“It`s not been all bad though as we have picked up around £200,000 in loan fees for Tyrone and he still has a couple of years left on his contract.”
