Peterborough United`s former centre back has revealed to PUTV that he was on his way to discuss terms with Swansea when he got a call from Posh to divert to Norwich!

Swansea had been negotiating with Posh for most of the day and hadn`t been able to agree a deal for the England Under 21 centre back but it was decided he should travel to Wales should an agreement be reached, otherwise he wouldn`t have made it to Swansea by the 11pm deadline.

However, with discussions stalling, fellow Premiership side Norwich City nipped in with an offer Posh couldn`t refuse!

‘Swansea were interested and I had to make my way down there because of the deadline,’ Bennett said to PUTV.

‘I got near Windsor then got the phone call to turn around. That’s football and it’s something I had to deal with.’

‘I don’t think it’s sunk in yet really, it feels like I’m still a Peterborough player and I’ll continue to play as I have been and try not to think about the move I’ve got now.

‘It’s up to me to go out there and play well for the next month because a lot of people are going to be looking at me thinking ‘is his head there?’ It’s up to me to prove that it is.

‘Peterborough is a club I’ve really come to love. But it’s a move I couldn’t turn down. I’m sad to go but it’s something I had to do.’

Posh Chairman Darragh MacAnthony was again active on Twitter when he said: “Bear in mind the player wanted this to happen. It`s a top 12 Premier League club at the end of the day.

“When a player lets you know 24 hours prior to the window that this will change his family`s life and acts in the correct way which Ryan has, then I have to work hard to make sure the club gets the best possible deal.

“Norwich have acted very professionally and have loaned Ryan back to us to give us time to find a replacement when the loan window opens on February 8.”

The undisclosed fee surpasses the £2.5m paid by Brighton for Craig Mackail-Smith in the summer but Bennett has immediately returned to London Road on an emergency loan deal until the end of February. This will allow Posh boss Darren Ferguson time to find a replacement as he now only has one recognized centre back in the first team!

Bennett`s final matches in a Posh shirt will see him play just two more times at London Road against West Ham and Bristol City while travelling to face Burnley, Cardiff and his final game at Doncaster on 25th February.
