Big Ron documentary shame…

IF the money from Sky for the Big Ron Manager documentary was essential for the survival of Peterborough United FC last season, then you could understand Barry Fry being tempted.

If it was done to get the club publicity then it has already backfired… big style.

I sat in stunned silence watching the trailer on Sky One last night. Surely the football club had some input on how they are portrayed in this programme? If the trailer is one non-stop mesh of bleeped bad language, images of players brawling with each other in the changing room and Steve Bleasdale being abused by Big Ron, then I dread to think what the full show will be like.

‘That’s your job, make a decision’ – screams Ron into the face of the Bleo, before it cuts to a dressing room scene (revealed in the three page article from the Daily Mirror as Oxford away) where they all pile in on top of one player for a big fight.

I have yet to see the Daily Mirror article myself (I bet there wont be enough copies in the city today!), but local radio have revealed that there are a number of further images of players being violent towards each other and more details of graphic arguments between Bleo and Sean St Ledger which will be transmitted during the series.

I am trying to think how I am going to sum up how I feel about this. Part of me feels let down because I was looking forward to seeing a documentary about the inner workings of POSH. I should have known better.

Mainly though I am upset. Upset at how we now seem to be sailing on a much more even keel, only for a self inflicted ice-berg to appear on the horizon.

Most of the players featured in this article are still at the club… how will they feel tomorrow when they run out on the pitch?
