Posh lost their first game of the pre-season when going down to a narrow one-nil defeat to Primeira Liga side C.S. Marítimo.
The only goal of the game was scored with just five minutes on the clock during the second half. A slip in midfield allowed the Madeira-based side to score from the edge of the area with the ball nestling into the bottom corner of the net.
It was disappointing to concede a goal after giving the ball away but the performance of the whole squad, which included new signing Isaac Buckley-Ricketts, will provide many positives for boss Steve Evans. Posh created numerous chances but were thwarted in the main by the Marítimo goalkeeper.
Posh managed to reduce Marítimo to shots from distance for the majority of the game while they created chances from both outside and inside the box and from a mixture of good build-up play and set pieces.
It may have been a defeat but the outlook is positive based on this performance.
Posh are next in action on Saturday morning when they face Louletano who currently play in the Campeonato Nacional de Seniores (Portuguese third level). They will then head back home on Sunday before facing Gainsborough Trinity on Tuesday evening.
