Peterborough United have hit three goals per game on average in the League since the start of the season but can they carry that form into the next match against their former manager Grant McCann?
McCann’s Doncaster Rovers brought to an end the winning run of Portsmouth last weekend when they fought out a goalless draw at the Keepmoat Stadium. Rovers played the final eight minutes, plus added time, with ten men after they had goalkeeper Marko Marosi sent off for handball outside the area!
That was their second goalless draw in succession after a battling stalemate with last season’s surprise team Shrewsbury Town. What could be a concern to McCann though is that his side have now failed to find the back of the net in their last three matches! Prior to the Shrews draw, they went down to their only defeat of the season so far at Burton Albion, who scored the only goal of the game, two minutes into the second half.
Rovers did start the season off well with two wins out of two, beating Southend United 3-2 with all the goals coming in the second half and after Rovers had raced into a three-nil lead. They followed this up with a convincing three-nil victory at home to Wycombe Wanderers.
With only three goals conceded in their opening five League matches, can Rovers halt the tide of Posh and stop them from continuing their red-hot form in front of goal?
Despite their lack of goals recently, Posh will still need to stick to their game plan and deny Rovers any clear-cut chances. They’ve failed to do that in all their games so far despite winning them all. If the teams Posh have beaten so far have anyone half decent that can put the ball in the back of the net then we probably wouldn’t be sat here with maximum points!
Last season, the sides battled out a one-all draw at the ABAX Stadium. Danny Lloyd struck his tenth goal of the season after 14 minutes but the visitors equalised in the third minute of added time!
