In his second game in charge, since taking over the managerial role from Mark Cooper, Jim Gannon suffered his first defeat in charge of Posh, however, all credit to the lads who gave a battling display.

The side was very similar to that which started against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday. The only change being that Charlie Lee, who`d picked up an injury on Saturday, wasn`t risked and was on the bench.

With the previous fixture between the two sides having been that wonderful 4-4 draw, at London Road, it would be interesting to see if this game lived up to the same entertainment level as that one.

With a healthy crowd of in excess of 17,600 inside Cardiff`s splendid new stadium it was the home side that came closest to scoring early on when Jay Bothroyd rattled the post from just inside the penalty area. Michael Chopra then kept the pressure up, on our goal, when he dragged an effort wide.

Peter Whittingham then saw Joe Lewis produce a smart save from his free kick before Posh launched an offensive of their own with Aaron Mclean shooting wide and George Boyd forcing a save out of the home keeper.

But, with thirty minutes having been completed the home side got that crucial breakthrough when Burke netted, from close range, after an assist from Bothroyd. The half finished with Cardiff on top and Whittingham again saw an effort go wide.

Half time and Posh were 1-0 down but after the magical comeback against Cardiff, at London Road, hopes amongst the travelling faithful were still high.

Posh started the second half pushing forward, Aarom Mclean saw his shot sail over the bar whilst George Boyd produced another save from Marshall. Cardiff responded with efforts of their own with Bothroyd unable to keep his shot below the level of the bar and Joe Lewis having to save from Whittingham again.

But, with time running out and Marshall having foiled George Boyd again, Cardiff finally killed off our hopes of snatching something from this game in the seventy-eighth minute. Bothroyd produced a cross and there was Gerrard waiting to score from close range.

In the time that was left Lee Frecklington saw a shot saved and Michael Chopra rattled a post.

Two games into his reign, Jim Gannon heads to Middlesbrough, to take on Gordon Strachan`s side eager to get Posh back to winning ways although our league position is looking to be more forlorn by the day!
