Does it get any better?

A solitary goal from Charlie Lee was sufficient to leave 1800 travelling Posh fans looking towards the heavens believing if what we`d witnessed over these past forty-five games had actually happened.

There were grown men hugging, strangers embracing and all the while desperately trying to get any confirmed news from the MK Dons Stadium.

Had Walsall really done the improbable and beaten our main rivals for that second automatic promotion spot?

After a delay that seemed like ages it was confirmed they had even if our celebrations had begun a little prematurely, but that was the mood of the afternoon, one of celebration and one of preparation for getting smashed tonight and, do you know what, I can`t wait.

I can`t wait for that first pint, that second pint, that third and all the rest, sod the hangover getting back-to-back promotions doesn`t happen that often does it?

Darren Ferguson gave us no real surprises with his team selection, it was just as we`d expected with his tried and trusted servants keen to put there bodies on the line one more time. Gabriel Zakuani was welcomed back from injury and we knew that all that had gone before didn`t matter; it was down to this match and this match alone. Fail and the obstacle in front of us would be higher than ever.

Thankfully, Posh were in no mood to leave anything to chance and they started off terrifically. Five early corners were forced as we sought that breakthrough. George Boyd was pulling the strings and it seemed it would only be a matter of time before we scored.

However, it was to be an unlikely hero, but a well deserved hero, who was to settle those nerves and the opening goal was to come just as our hosts were enjoying a good patch.

Posh launched a counter attack and when Charlie Lee burst into the box and chested down the ball before drilling it home you wondered what he was doing that far up the pitch. Never mind, 1-0 to the Posh and that promised party was staring at us down the end of that tunnel.

If there were any doubts last minute nerves would let Colchester back into the fray then they were erased by a superb second half performance. The only point to ponder being that we didn`t stretch our lead. Aaron McLean and Craig Mackail-Smith worked tremendously together whilst the defence held firm.

And when news filtered through that Walsall had taken the lead I`m sure the eruption of noise could be heard all the way back to London Road.

With four minutes of stoppage time played out the long wait, some ten minutes, began to see if MK Dons had delayed our party but they couldn`t. The champagne was opened, the corks popped and the bubbly sprayed in all directions

Contrary to what many people had predicted back in August the partnership of MacAnthony and Ferguson had delivered us to the promised land of the Championship and tonight we intend to party like we`ve never partied before.

Please join us, it`ll not happen again for a very long time – mark my words!
