Colchester v Posh Preview

And so it came to pass that to achieve our goals those that run our wonderful national game have decreed that we need to travel to Essex to pillage three of the six points (maximum) we need to go up.

Essex, a land where the grass is green, the sky is blue and the women are orange but none of that will matter one iota if, come 17:00 hours on Saturday we`ve won leaving us with just a home fixture against Swindon Town to navigate to reach our chosen destination.

But Colchester will be no mugs, they`ve already been in our promised land, albeit temporarily, and Paul Lambert will be looking to improve on a home record that was nothing short of appalling earlier this season.

Our own gaffer, Darren Ferguson, has already implied that he`s not expecting any favours and that it will be up to us to dictate matters, take the game by the scruff of the neck and not be fazed by what lies ahead.

As for the Posh team, Darren will be thankful that Craig Mackail-Smith survived an injury scare in midweek and should be free to take his place alongside Aaron McLean up front. However, it`s at the back that Darren will have some decisions to make.

Gabriel Zakuani missed the last game and Darren will need to decide which two to play at the heart of the defence out of Zakuani, Westwood, Morgan and Lee, however with Tom Williams out injured Charlie Lee may well be given the left back spot.

As for the opposition, Clive Platt is likely to face his former club but Lambert has a few injuries to contend with. Out are David Perkins (knee), Johnnie Jackson (hamstring), Paul Reid (knee) and Steven Gillespie (ankle). They also have Dean Hammons suspended.

It promises to be an enthralling encounter and if Posh are to emerge victorious they`ll need to play somewhere approaching their best. Colchester have already beaten our promotion rivals Millwall and performed very admirably at London Road earlier this season.

Nevertheless we`re confident, we`d be churlish not to after a season of hard work has lifted us into this lofty position. So, here at Vital Posh we`ll go for a 2-0 win but a win not without the odd scare or two!
