It’s common knowledge that Leeds United attended many Posh matches last season casting an eye over striker Jack Marriott but could Posh be considering a move for a Whites player?

Posh boss Steve Evans spent one season as manager at Elland Road so he knows many of the players there but could one of their right-backs be on his right-back target list?

Lewie Coyle has made 23 appearances for the Yorkshire outfit but spent all of last season on loan at Fleetwood Town. He featured 48 times in all competitions for the Cod Army and picked up the players’ Player of the Year award while he also receiving a glowing comment from departing boss John Sheridan who said: “If I was going to pick a best player while I’ve been here I’d pick him, just for the way he plays, goes about his job and the way he works.”

Having returned to his parent club, if he were to stay at the Elland Road club, he’d face competition from Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi for a place at right-back. Many Leeds fans see Ayling as a key player in their team while Berardi has plenty of experience at Championship level so could Coyle force his way into Paul Heckingbottom’s squad?

During his time at Leeds, Evans told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “I love that boy and he’s got a real chance” but could he have a real chance at Posh and is he a target for Evans?

If Coyle isn’t on the wanted list, how about a couple of ex-Posh right-backs?

Mark Little has just completed the first of his two-year contract at Bolton Wanderers but he only featured sparingly last season as the Trotters escaped relegation from the Championship on the last day of the season. We all know his attributes as a right-back and while he likes to get forward, he never made much effort to get back which wouldn’t go down well with Evans who wants players who can get up and down the pitch.

The other ex-Posh right-back is a Scotland International but is normally found in a more central defensive position these days. Russell Martin finished the season on loan in Scotland playing for Rangers and is out of contract at Norwich City, the club who bought him from Posh back in January 2010. He’s on the wrong side of 30 now though but he is over 6 feet!

We doubt Posh will go back for Little or Martin but someone they might be keeping an eye on, apart from Coyle, is Coventry City right-back Jack Grimmer. The 24-year-old Scot has a year left on his contract but has done really well since signing for the Sky Blues last summer. He was named in the PFA League Two Team of the Year for 2017-2018 and played in the League Two Play-Off Final yesterday [Monday, 28th May].
