League Two promotion favourites Crawley Town have signed Posh left back Scott Griffiths on emergency loan for a one-month period.

Griffiths originally joined Posh from League 2 Dagenham & Redbridge in January 2010 for a transfer fee of £150,000 after he had a excellent season in League 2 with the London based club.

Griffiths went on to start twenty matches in the Championship for Posh.

Two changes of manager and further signings at Posh saw him go out on loan last season to npower League 2 side Chesterfield. He made 28 starting appearances as he made a big contribution for Chesterfield as they became Champions of npower League 2.

He is due to link up with Crawley manager Steve Evans who is from the Peterborough area and also former Posh players Josh Simpson and Sergio Torres.

Speaking ahead of training on Thursday morning Steve Evans told www.crawleytownfc.com ‘Scott Griffiths is a talented player who I watched many times last season at Chesterfield and before that for Peterborough United in the Championship.

‘I was aware from my discussions with Darren Ferguson that Scott had a number of clubs at League 1 & 2 level interested in signing him so I would like to thank Darren for sanctioning the lads move to us in preference to a few others.

‘When I was given permission to speak to the player by Darren Ferguson I was immediately impressed with the lad as a person and he was hungry to play first team football. He knew all about Crawley Town as he had already been on the phone to Sergio Torres who was of course a team mate of his at Peterborough United, the reference must have been very good” laughed the manager.

Minutes after completing the paperwork Scott told www.crawleytownfc.com ‘I was aware that a number of clubs were interested in taking me but when the Gaffer at Peterborough United told me Steve Evans had been on the phone I was immediately interested.

‘That evening I spoke with Sergio Torres who in turn could not speak with enough praise for Crawley Town and the manager (Steve Evans). The manager was impressive when I spoke with him, he was so enthusiastic and passionate about his football, I wanted to play for him.

‘I now need to get my head down and work hard, there are a lot of quality players here. League 2 is very competitive and if you drop your standards for one minute you get punished, I am now just looking forward to playing football.’

Griffiths will wear the number 19 at Crawley and will be available for Saturday’s trip to Morecambe, subject to all the documentation being registered on time.
