Peterborough United have received encouraging news regarding the injury to midfielder Danny Kearns following his withdrawal from last nights Aston Villa game.

Kearns hobbled off in last nights [Wednesday] 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa. He was sent for an x-ray this morning [Thursday] with the results being encouraging which will be a relief to the player and Posh boss Darren Ferguson as Fergie thought the worst after the game last night: ‘Tommy`s injury was caused by an innocuous incident, but Danny`s wasn`t. Their player has done him like a kipper. It was a horrible tackle and it looks like a bad injury.’

Kearns has suffered soft tissue damage to his foot and medial ligament damage to the right knee. However, Posh physiotherapist Chris Burton has revealed that Kearns could be back for the opening npower Championship fixture at Leicester City on Saturday 18th August.

Burton told theposh.com: ‘Fortunately, an x-ray has confirmed there is no fracture to the foot or ankle. However, there is extensive bruising and soft tissue damage to the inside of the foot and unfortunately he has suffered medial ligament damage to the right knee. He will now undergo treatment and rehabilitation and hopefully will return to full fitness in time for the opening Championship game of the season.’
