Following his departure from Peterborough United, George Boyd has issued the following statement via the official Posh website:

‘I would like to thank the manager, Darren Ferguson and everybody at Peterborough United Football Club for the last amazing six years. I have enjoyed every minute of my time at the club, on and off the field. We have enjoyed three unbelievable promotion campaigns and defied the odds to stay in the Championship.

‘I would like to especially thank the chairman Darragh MacAnthony. The chairman and I spoke at length and he informed me he had turned down five bids from Hull City and three other bids from three other Championship sides because it was not about the money. He was desperate to keep me at the football club so that Peterborough United had a better chance of retaining their Championship status.

‘However, I explained that the opportunity to join a club like Hull City at this stage of my career was too good to turn down. I didn`t want to wait until the end of the season. I wanted to fulfil my dream of playing in the Premier League.

‘The chairman told me of his desire to back the manager as much as he could in every attempt to keep Posh in the Championship, which I fully understand and after a long and emotional telephone conversation, he and the manager, reluctantly agreed to let me go and try and fulfil my dream.

‘I will be eternally grateful to the chairman for allowing me this opportunity and I wish him, Darren, all of the players and all of the supporters the very best in their efforts to avoid relegation this season. In my opinion, the manager has assembled the best squad in my time at the club and everybody in that dressing room is like the gaffer and is confident of avoiding relegation.

‘My message to the supporters is simple. Thank you very much for all your support over the time I have been with Peterborough. You have been magnificent and I ask you to please get behind the players, the manager and the club for the rest of the season.

‘Thank you.’

George Boyd
