Fergie v Keane!

With a Carling Cup tie fast approaching the media have latched on to the fact that it pitches two players with United connections against each other.

The fact that both ex-United players preside over teams that have only a point each to their name and seem to be leaking goals on a regular basis also gets a mention.

However, as the tie approaches both managers having nothing but kind words about each other with Darren remarking about Roy,

‘Roy was one of the most sought after players in the country at the time and Manchester United paid about £3.5 million for him which was a huge fee in those days.”

‘He was a top class player and as England regular Paul Ince was at the club then as well it was obvious my days were numbered so I felt it better to leave.”

‘Roy didn’t drive me out, that was down to my old man! But Roy was a great player and went on to be brilliant for United.”

‘I haven’t had much to do with him since I left, but he was a winner as a player and he will be a winner as a manager as well.”

‘He did a fantastic job at Sunderland and I am sure he will be successful at Ipswich as well.”

‘It’s far too early to judge him there yet.’

Not too sure about the fantastic job at Sunderland bit, didn`t he leave them somewhat in the lurch and staring relegation in the face?

‘Obviously it would be unfair to compare Darren with his dad after all the success Sir Alex has had.

‘But Darren has done brilliantly and the signs for him as a manager are very good.’

You feel those words were let out through somewhat gritted teeth though don`t you!

It should be an interesting night!
