Frustration In Striker Hunt

Peterborough United are finding it hard to bring in that target man figure so desperately wanted by boss Steve Evans.

Posh have already seen a £1 million bid for Cheltenham Town striker Mo Eisa turned down while a bid for half that figure was put forward to Bradford City for their striker Charlie Wyke who has just 12 months remaining on his Bantams contract.

There are now reports in the Sunderland Echo that Posh have been knocked back with their bid for Accrington Stanley striker Kayden Jackson, something we reported on last week, while the South London Press & Mercury have an “exclusive” that Charlton Athletic rejected a bid from Posh for striker Josh Magennis.

Northern Ireland international Magennis, is thought to be available for transfer as he enters the last year of his current contract at the Valley but if Posh are interested, then they will have opposition from Bolton Wanderers who are also looking at the striker they tried to sign in January. Bolton are also targetting Charlie Wyke but will move for Magennis if they miss out on the Bantams player.

Posh Chairman Darragh MacAnthony has repeatedly tweeted that people shouldn’t always believe the names flying around that are linked to the club but if Posh have tried to sign these four players, then we must be getting to the bottom of the list of target men strikers identified by Evans.

It could simply be a case of Posh waiting to see what happens with 33-goal striker Jack Marriott before improving any offers for their main target but that could also cause a problem if the Marriott situation drags on as their top targets could all have moved on by that time! With just three weeks until the transfer window shuts, it will certainly be interesting to see what happens with Marriott and midfielder Marcus Maddison in that time and who Posh eventually bring in.
