The potential departure of George Boyd from Peterborough United rumbles on.
Boyd was expected to sign for midlands rivals Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day after the player turned down the chance to join his boyhood club Crystal Palace.
However, a pathetic excuse by the clubs owners saw the move to Forest fall down at the very last minute because the player didn`t have perfect eye sight!
With that deal now dead in the water, especially after the then Forest manager Alex McLeish having left the club after reported disagreements with the owners, it appears the Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway has been trying to persuade the midfielder to join his outfit…or has he?
Posh boss Darren Ferguson criticised the Eagles manager at his weekly press conference as he said: “The one thing that has really annoyed me this week is that the Crystal Palace manager has been constantly ringing George.
“I don`t think it is right and I`m not having it. He should not be speaking to one of my players.
“It was clearly different when everyone was chasing his player, Wilfried Zaha. He is the first person to start moaning about it then.
“It`s simple, go through the right channels and either sign him or don`t.
“He hasn`t had the courtesy to ring me so I`m not going to have the courtesy to ring him.
“I`ll speak to the chairman and see where we take the matter.
”Even though there is a very good chance George will be playing for another club next week, he is currently a Peterborough player.
“All we ask is that interested clubs do it the right way and make a bid as Forest did and Palace initially did.
“As long as we agree a deal we will give the other club permission to speak to the player”.
Crystal Palace Chairman Steve Parish has hit back by declaring that his club are no longer interested in the player and questioned why Holloway would keep ringing Boyd: “I`ve got no axe to grind with Darren Ferguson but I think he`s got his facts wrong.
“After George turned us down in favour of Forest, Ian gave him a call to wish him luck and said no hard feelings.
“It was all part of the same permission to talk to him.
“We don`t want him on loan. Maybe if he is a free agent in the summer. I asked Ian two weeks ago if we were still interested and he said ‘no` as he had got too many loans.
“It is absolutely rubbish. Somewhere along the line, he [Ferguson] has got the wrong end of the stick”.
Meanwhile, there were strong rumours that Hull City were the favourites to sign Boyd on loan but manager Steve Bruce has played down an immediate loan for the gifted left footed midfielder.
“We made an enquiry but that`s as far as it has gone up to now. He`s a good player who is effective in a few positions, but he`s a Peterborough player,” Bruce told the Hull Daily Mail.
“It`s a possibility I`ll go back in for him, but I`ve got no immediate plans to use the loan window.
“The opportunity is there if we need to, but I`ve said all along that any player that comes in has to be able to improve us.”
So, for now at least, he is still a Posh player and is expected to play against promotion chasing Leicester City on Saturday.
