Peterborough United return for pre-season today.

Day 1 - Danny Kearns & NKP on treadmill

The Posh squad returned to London Road today [Monday, 24th June] for day 1 of pre-season training.

Each player had a programme to follow since the end of last season and tests will be done to see how they are in terms of weight and fitness etc.

The main session will include gym work to get the players back into the swing of things before the tough sessions really start later in the week.

As the players report back for pre-season, they`ll notice a couple of changes to the back-room staff following the departures of coach Eoin Jess and fitness coach Ben MacKenzie. Former Posh players Gary Breen is now the first team coach with Jimmy Walker now the official goalkeeper coach after ending last season in the temporary goalkeeper coaching role.

There are no new player faces in the squad so far so the only difference will be George Boyd and Jonson Clarke-Harris missing following their departures to Hull City and Oldham Athletic respectively while Mark Little’s contract expires this weekend.

It could be a big season for the likes of youngsters Jaanai Gordon-Hutton and Shaq McDonald [pictured below] as they look to break into the Posh first team. They both, along with a number of other youngsters, have massive potential as they all look to get some game time this season.

Tomorrow will see the players receive more fitness sessions while the remainder of the week will be a mixture of fitness and ball work.

Darren Ferguson is looking forward to having the players back as he said: “The players will be in on Monday and we will have a look at them fitness wise and run our normal testing programme.

“They will then work hard for the rest of the week with injury prevention stuff in the morning and ball work in the afternoons. I am looking forward to getting started, I have had a good rest in the summer and can’t wait to get started now,” Ferguson said.
