Vital Posh looks at previous matches between Peterborough United and Leicester City.

Peterborough United host local rivals Leicester City at London Road in what should be a keenly contested npower Championship match.

There have only ever been 9 League meetings between these two sides with nothing dividing the teams with both teams having won on three occasions with drawing the other three.

The corresponding match back in December finished in a 1-1 draw thanks to Leicester born lad Lee Tomlin scoring for Posh.

Last Time Out at London Road

A crowd of just over 9,500 witnessed Posh`s penultimate home game of the 2009/10 season but the end result being the usual defeat!

With just four matches left of the season, Posh had already been relegated as they lay bottom of the Championship with 31 points from 42 games. Leicester on the otherhand, were occupying the final play-off place and were determined to stay there.

Posh were being managed for the first time by Gary Johnson who had taken over the reigns from temporary manager Jim Gannon. He would`ve been please with the display as Posh put up a determined battle against their East Midlands rivals.

On a sunny April afternoon, Dominic Green registered the first shot of the game but it was easily held by Foxes keeper Chris Weale. The first and only yellow card of the match was issued shortly afterwards to Tommy Rowe for preventing a free-kick to be taken quickly!

Paul Gallagher had Leicesters first meaningful effort at the Posh goal on 14 minutes but his volley went over Lewis` bar.

Sergio Torres made a chance for himself after skipping past two Foxes only to see Michael Morrison get in front of him to deflect his shot away from danger. Posh were certainly creating some good chances as Craig Morgan was next up with a header which was cleared off the line while Craig Mackail-Smith tried in vain to prod the loose ball in only to see the ball bounce over the bar.

Despite the good chances being created by Posh, it was Leicester who had the greater possession although they couldn`t convert this possession into clear goal-scoring opportunities.

Andy King had an effort at goal on 37 minutes which deflected over the bar for a corner. Five minutes later though, Leicester had taken the lead. Dominic Green appeared to be fouled in the centre circle but the referee waved play on! Leicester made the most of the opportunity as Steve HOWARD hit a low shot past Lewis which went in off the post.

Howard tried his luck from 30-yards on the stroke of half-time but his effort went sailing over the bar.

Half-time: Peterborough United 0 – 1 Leicester City

Posh boss Johnson decided to change the formation of the team on the hour mark as midfielder Torres was replaced by forward Ben Wright.

The chance had an immediate impact as Wright played an exquisite pass inside the full back to Tommy ROWE who slid the ball past the onrushing Weale to even the match up.

Leicester soon got their noses in front again though following a cross by Gallagher saw Vaughan knock the ball back across the goal for Andy KING to head home an easy chance.

This set-back didn`t deflate Posh as they again battled away looking for an equaliser.

Weale denied Mackail-Smith before Charlie Lee saw his header from a Rowe corner go agonisingly wide.

With time running out, Morgan ventured forward for the final few minutes which caused the Foxes defence a few problems. Mackail-Smith was presented with the last chance of the game following a knock-on from Morgan but Weale stood up well to collect the ball.

Final Score: Peterborough United 1 – 2 Leicester City

This result meant Leicester leapfrogged Swansea into 5th place while Posh remained rooted to the bottom; 10 points adrift of Plymouth who were the team directly above them
