Posh got back on the winning trail with a hard fought out win against Hereford United.
As expected, Darren Ferguson selected Lee Frecklington for his first start and James Chester was considered fit enough to partner Gabriel Zakuani at centre back. However, Posh were still without the injured Craig Morgan, Tom Williams and Shane Blackett.
With memories of our last two games fresh in our minds, games against Yeovil and Tranmere, games where we fell behind and never got back to getting our noses in front, it was pleasing to see Posh take an early lead.
The goal came as early as the third minute and was a fine goal. George Boyd, showing some sublime touches, fed the ball through for Aaron McLean to race clear and easily beet the Hereford keeper, Peter Gulasci.
With his strike partner Craig Mackail-Smith having already scored twenty-one times this season, Aaron will be pleased to close the gap on him by scoring number fifteen of the season. Could our striker pairing propel us to the Championship?
Posh could easily have put the game well out of Hereford`s reach, Aaron McLean had further chances and Craig Mackail-Smith missed a sitter just after the break.
Hereford`s best chance of securing an equaliser came when Steve Guinan headed wide when well placed but in all fairness a win was what Posh deserved.
With MK Dons only drawing the win enables Posh to close the gap and perhaps, just as Darren Ferguson predicted on Friday, that second automatic promotion place could still be ours.
Our hectic schedule continues, this Tuesday, with a home clash with Carlisle United before we entertain Southend United next Saturday, an ideal chance to take six points!
