Jamie Day has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after finding out he requires surgery on a back problem, which will keep him out for nine-months.

The Peterborough fullback has been playing with a back problem for a while, but he got to the point that he knew there was no avoiding it and after consultations has been advised to have surgery: ‘I’ve known I’ve had a problem since the start of the season,’ Day told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. ‘I’ve just been trying to play through it, and try and kid myself really.

‘I was getting nerve trouble down the back of my leg which has been affecting my training and performances since the start of the season.

‘When I had the scans it showed that the bottom of my vertebrae is slightly displaced, and the only way to cure it is to operate on it.’

The 22-year-old aims to come back stronger though and is remaining positive, adding: ‘It took a few days for me to accept that I would be out for the majority of the season, but the gaffer and the specialist have told me I will come back stronger from it.’

Manager Darren Ferguson is devastated for the player and the club, but has also tipped him to bounce back, he added: ‘It is devastating news for the club and for Jamie.
‘I have spoken with him and he is very down, but he will bounce back.’
