Tommy Robson, who played close to 500 matches for Peterborough is backing ‘keeper Joe Lewis for big things following his England call-up in place of injured Chris Kirkland: ‘It’s absolutely brilliant news, isn’t it,’ Robson BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. ‘The lad must have thought when he came here from a higher division he’d scuppered his chance, but it hasn’t.’

Robson also feels that Lewis has a great chance to impress Fabio Capello as others will possibly be in wind down mode after a long hard season, and despite having this himself the club record signing will be all out to impress, he added: ‘The other lads have probably now let themselves down a little bit on training and are mentally and physically (tired), so to pick him it’s a great choice.

‘The club’s got promotion and in the same year one of their players has been selected for the England squad. That’s great news for the season to come.’

Robson was an unused substitute against the USA on Wednesday but is part of the squad that has headed for the Caribbean so he could still make his England debut against Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday night.

Do you think that Lewis will be given the chance by Capello against Trinidad or will David James and Joe Hart be the men that are used, with it likely that two ‘keepers will feature in this match?

What? Nothing on this site about Barry Fry slagging off other fans in the division? He should be dragged in front of the FL for brining the game into disrepute.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
