Peterborough United midfielder Danny Kearns has been recalled from his loan spell at York City.

Kearns picked up an injury during pre-season in the game with Aston Villa but was sent out on loan to get match fit, which is something he has relished.

He has played 12 games for York City in League Two and has earned rave reviews. He will go straight into the Posh squad for Saturdays match at home against Blackpool.

With the recent spate of players leaving on loans combined with a number of injuries the squad are down to the bare bones. To make matters worse, current captain Michael Bostwick picked up his fifth yellow card of the season during Tuesdays 2-0 defeat by Crystal Palace meaning he is suspended for one match.

Darren Ferguson has been pleased with how the 21 year-old Irishman has got on at York: “I rate Danny, but we had to let him go out and get some games under his belt. He`s done that and he`s been York`s best player so I felt it was a good time for him to come back.

“He`s a good footballer. He moves well and passes the ball well so he will suit the way we are trying to play.”

The form Kearns was showing pre-season was very good and it looked like he would become a vital part of the Posh team this season. Unfortunately the injury sustained against Villa set him back but now he is back at Posh and fit, it will be like having a new player in the squad…and a much needed one!
