Leicester 4 Posh 0

Not the ideal way to sign off for Christmas was it?

A 4-0 thrashing away to one of our main promotion rivals, in a game Darren Ferguson had decreed we must not lose; saw our fantastic unbeaten run of sixteen games come to an end.

Watching the action, I`d hazard a guess that our dreams of automatic promotion and being one of the two teams in those automatic spots have been diminished to chasing one spot as this hack believes Leicester City are certain to take the top spot.

On paper, it looks a thrashing but it was never that bad. I`ll admit Leicester were good but we showed good spirit, our heads never dropped and if that effort from Boyd had gone in and not hit the inside of the post only for Mackail-Smith to repeat the feat before McLean put his effort over, it could have been a different story.

Perhaps, the writing was on the wall when Craig Morgan was unfortunate enough to turn a cross from Matt Fryatt into his own net. It was always going to be a tough way back especially with 20,000 of the 23,000 crowd roaring on the home side.

But for thirty-two minutes, before the second goal gave us a mountain to climb, we held our own and were left to rue that previously described hectic few moments when the Leicester goal resembled the Alamo.

The second goal, scored by the Leicester goal machine, Fryatt, was a poor one to concede. A long ball caught us out and when Lewis was caught in no-man`s land he knew pulling him down would be a red card offence so Fryatt was left to simply jink around Lewis and notch his eighth goal in five games.

Two goals down starting the second half, it was always going to be a long haul back and the most we could have hoped for was a draw. But with twenty minutes to go Andy King perfectly met a free kick to head home and all really was lost.

Salt was rubbed into the wounds in the last minute when Steve Howard shot home from twenty-five yards out to give the home side an emphatic victory they probably deserved but they were never four goals better than us.

On reflection, I guess if you are going to lose a long unbeaten record there are worse places to do it and let`s be honest it kind of makes the pain more bearable when you do so, so emphatically doesn`t it?

No! I didn`t think so either!
