Peterborough United have nearly completed one loan signing but have missed out on a second one.

Ben Nugent celebrates scoring against Posh while on loan at Brentford

Posh have almost secured the loan signing of central defender Ben Nugent from Premiership side Cardiff City.

The 20-year-old played against Posh earlier in the season in the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy when Brentford lost 2-1 at London Road and he got his name on the scoresheet. That goal was one of two goals he scored in five appearances on loan for Brentford.

If he signs in time he could make his debut in Friday`s [14th February] Sky Bet League One clash with Walsall at London Road. After the weekends win over Leyton Orient, it is likely that he will only find a place amongst the substitutes.

It looks like Posh have missed out on the Premiership forward they were after. Muamer Tanković from Fulham was originally needed for their FA Cup match during the week but it now seems he has played his way into contention with the first team squad as he played the first 45 minutes at Old Trafford on Sunday in their 2-2 draw with Manchester United.

Despite losing out to Tanković, Posh Chairman Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed that he expects Posh to sign a midfielder on loan this week.
