Posh have made a bid to sign Norwich City striker Cody McDonald according to reports on Skysports.com.

The 25-year-old impressed while on loan at League Two side Gillingham last season, where he scored 25 goals in 41 appearances.

He has apparently been told by Norwich manager Paul Lambert that he is not part of his plans at Premiership side Norwich.

League One side Sheffield Wednesday were also rumoured to be interested in the striker as well as Championship side Coventry City.

However, Peterborough are thought to be in pole position to complete a deal for the player before the transfer window closes on Wednesday.

Director of football at Posh, Barry Fry, has confirmed the club hope to sign a striker before the deadline and a midfielder from the Premiership on loan when the loan window opens.

‘We are after a striker who has been a long-term target of ours and we hope to have him here by Wednesday,’ said Fry in the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.

‘We are also working on a loan deal for a Premier League midfielder.’
