Ever since Ryan Bennett was sold to Norwich on transfer deadline day to Norwich City, Posh boss Darren Ferguson has been searching for cover to his thin back line.
Centre back Shaun Brisley was brought in on loan with a view to signing permanently come the end of the season and although Fergie originally thought he wouldn’t be used until next season, he has played the last few games and has put in good shifts every game.
However, fellow centre back Gaby Zakuani has been playing with a foot injury which requires pain killers in order for him to complete each match and he requires a complete rest to recover from the injury.
Other than these two, Posh have no recognised senior first team centre backs to fill in should Brisley pick up an injury or Zakuani be unable to continue with his injury.
Fergie said only last week he was hopeful of bringing in a left back and centre back on loan until the end of the season, however with todays loan deadline, it appears Posh will finish the season with the personnel they currently have at the club.
This also means that no one will be departing London Road as there had been interest in striker Emile Sinclair.
Fergie confirmed: ‘There will be nothing coming in or going out.
‘Everyone knows we have tried to do some business but there were one or two things that we just couldn’t make happen.
‘To be honest, I don’t now feel the need to bring anyone in after being able to pick an unchanged team for three matches.
‘I have to admit that players brought in on loan during this season have been a disappointment and that is something I have to look at going forward.
‘I’m not going to let people go out because we will still have a lot of games to come and will need to have everyone available.’
With Posh edging towards safety having won two of their last three matches playing entertaining football, Fergie is likely to stick to the team that have put in some excellent performances.
When Posh are guaranteed their Championship status, Zakuani will then be rested which will give opportunities for Mark Little to return to the side or provide youngsters Kgosi Nthle and Peter Grant to gain first team exposure and possibly Championship experience.
