Venue:Sixfields
Date: 20th July, 2013
Kick-off: 3pm
Wobblers

The Posh were defeated in midweek, losing 4-2 to League 2 side Mansfield Town. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Emile Sinclair were on the score sheet, but it wasn`t enough to overcome the team that have just been promoted back to the Football League.

Local rivals Northampton Town are the opposition on Saturday (20th July), and although it`s only a pre-season game, it`s a must win, with bragging rights at stake. This match could`ve been a League One fixture this season, but Northampton were comfortably beaten at Wembley in the League Two Playoff Final.

TEAM NEWS

Northampton Town

The Cobblers are likely to have a full strength squad at their disposal for the clash against the Posh, and will include trialist Lateef Elford-Aliyu in their team, following his 4 goal haul against Cogenhoe United in midweek.

Former Posh players, Kelvin Langmead and Clive Platt, could feature in the game, but it is likely that Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd will rotate his squad to give all of his players a chance to gain fitness and show what they can do.

Peterborough United

Posh first teamers Grant McCann, Tommy Rowe, Michael Bostwick, Kgosi Ntlhe and Tyrone Barnett will all play some part in the match after being rested for the game at Field Mill on Tuesday. Tommy Rowe is expected to play in midfield, with Kgosi Ntlhe at left back.

The players that played the second half at Mansfield (Olejnik, Alcock, Grant, Ferdinand, Swanson, Kearns, Anderson(below), Sinclair, Ajose) could all start at Sixfields, however one or two may have to make way for the returning first team regulars.

Posh have ‘The Derry Pele` aka former Celtic midfielder, Paddy McCourt, on trial, and the Northern Irishman will feature for Posh against Northampton on Saturday. McCourt scored 9 goals during his time at Celtic, all of which seemed to be spectacular efforts, but was released at the end of last season.

Joe Newell is not expected to feature in the game after picking up a dead leg against Mansfield, in a game that he was already being given the run around in?

PREDICTION

Posh will want to improve on their disappointing result on Tuesday night, and come away from Sixfields with a win against their local rivals. The season is drawing nearer and the players fitness should`ve vastly improved. Hopefully the players are starting to gel and will put in a good performance in what is guaranteed to be another scorcher of a day

Posh to win: 3 – 1.
