At 2pm today at Lincoln Cathedral, a great wonder of the spiritual word will host the tributes to a great wonder of the footballing world as our city and nation pay homage.

Keith Alexander was clearly a man who did things his way, earnestly, honestly and on limited resources. Few however will be aware of where the phrase ‘On A Wing and a Prayer` came from, but this phrase is one that applies to Keith, Bomber County and our beloved club in equal measure. The phrase originally came from the title of a song from World War Two a testament to wounded heroes who soldier on for the good of those around them and the future generations to come.

The patriotic ‘Coming in on a Wing and a Prayer` penned in 1943, by Harold Adamson and Jimmie McHugh tells the story of a bomber limping back to base after another brave bombing raid. Today Keith comes home forever more the hero.
