What has been the reaction to a first defeat as Peterborough United manager for Steve Evans when losing at Oxford United again on Saturday?
Oxford United 2 -Vs- 1 Peterborough United
Venue: Kassam Stadium
Date: Saturday, 17th March, 2018
Attendance: 6,804 (708 Posh fans)
Steve Evans suffered defeat for the first time as Peterborough United as he got it hopelessly wrong with his team selection and formation. Hopefully he`ll learn from this very quickly and see that it`s not always how good players perform in training but what they do, or in the case of some players, what they don`t do on the pitch that counts!
Those players who don`t put the effort in on the pitch may find themselves slipping down the pecking order very fast.
Posh fans know what the players are capable of but at the moment, Steve Evans doesn`t despite being a Posh fan himself for many years! It will certainly be interesting to see who is selected for the next match on Saturday when Posh entertain Bristol Rovers.
Last Saturday though, Posh were simply overrun in midfield, the defence struggled and goalkeeper Jonathan Bond cost us more points! Surely it`s time to give Conor O`Malley another chance in goal especially as Bond won`t be at the club next season but O`Malley will?
There was very little reaction from the Posh players after their first defeat in eight matches but the two players that did Tweet said:
Disappointing result for us yesterday but we are still in the mix and we will keep going all the way, again thank you to the traveling posh faithful in cold weather @theposhofficial 💙 #pufc

Disappointing day for us, but we go again. Big thanks to the fans that came to support us 👏🏼💙 https://t.co/apxHGnHw2g

What were the thoughts of the Posh fans? Here are a selection of tweets:
If I see Anderson Doughty Lopez all start again in the same side I`m staying in the pub & not going to game! #pufc

Awful from Bond I’d start O’Malley next week tbf #pufc https://t.co/fXsEW3HwFz

Posh remaining away games at teams 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th. Damaging result yesterday bearing that run in mind. #pufc

Watching highlights, Bond not good with either goal, Baldwin second yellow very harsh. #pufc

Poor day for Posh today. Players didn`t seem to understand the starting formation! Baldwin really is stupid at times, 3 poor challenges. Always looks likely to be booked when going in for a tackle. #pufc

Evans must shoulder the majority of the blame for that defeat. Shockingly bad selections in midfield. Never looked like creating or protecting. Worrying for someone of his apparent prowess in this league. The luck is running out & performances need to improve quickly #pufc

Bad day for #pufc today. Poor tactics, wrong team selection…a typical performance this season. Still in our hands though. Fair play to @Junior_Morias for clapping the fans at the end despite not playing…unlike some others. 😒 #pufc

Well he`s not wrong is he! Given that display, maybe it wasn`t the manager that needed changing. If Evans repeats McCann`s error of picking players clearly not worth a place in the team then we`ll stagnant. More formations than the Red Arrows. #straws #clutching #inept #pufc

But what about Yellows fans who saw their side do the double over Posh again?

I’d argue it was a foul, but I don’t care because it normally happens to us. #OUFC pic.twitter.com/7akT5n1NpN

The midfield diamond worked a treat yesterday. I don`t think posh (or even us) expected it. Posh commit a lot of players when attacking and left a lot of space to exploit. Best game management I`ve seen this season from #oufc

Cheers Faz 👍 shame we didn`t have that effort and passion 8 games ago@#OUFC
