Vital Posh reflects on yet another defeat for Peterborough United

Crystal Palace 1 – 0 Peterborough United
Location: Selhurst Park
Date: 3rd March, 2012
Attendance: 18,559 (1,121 Posh fans)

Another defeat but there were some positives!

Going into the game, many Posh fans weren`t expecting to get too much out of the game. However, after 30 minutes, you could only see one team winning this match and that was Posh!

Palace are a decent side and have an outside chance of sneaking into the play-offs while Posh showed at times that they have got a decent Championship side. What happened after that 30 minute mark remains a mystery as Posh were second best all over the pitch.

Craig Alcock did well as stand-in centre-back but he surely cannot be used there long term. We need a good experienced centre-back to assist the backline with Alcock reverting to right back.

Paul Jones made an error in judgement when trying to catch a ball instead of punching it away or just leaving it for Zakuani to deal with which makes it two costly mistakes in two games?remind you of anyone?? The goalkeeping department is surely an area we need to focus on in the summer as I don`t believe Jones or Lewis are good enough to be first choice keepers in the Championship.

It is also time for the senior members of the squad to start putting in decent shifts. Too often players are going missing with certain players having been poor for the majority of this season yet are still some of the first players down on the team sheet. Players failing to produce the goods week in week out should be dropped regardless of who they are?they may well be “tired” and need a rest!!

Up front, Tyrone Barnett certainly looks the business but regardless of how good he is, if we don`t provide the service to him, he`ll struggle as would any forward. It`ll take a while for not only Barnett to get used to Posh but for his team mates to get used to him but the future looks promising with him and Sinclair definitely looks better when partnered with him.

We haven`t been in the best of form this year but I do believe we have enough quality in the squad to survive but we need to start believing in ourselves and we need the fans to get behind the team and no to heckle anyone especially before or during the game!

We have got 13 matches remaining with 8 of them at home. Some of these will be very tough against teams looking to get promoted such as Southampton, West Ham and Reading. However, we have run these teams very close so if we can believe in ourselves, we should start putting some more wins on the board and get to that magical 50 point target that Fergie is aiming for.

Tuesday`s match against Millwall is looking like a massive game for us now as they are the next team below Posh in the Championship and a win would put Posh 7 points ahead of them and if results elsewhere go our way, we could be thirteen points ahead of the relegation threatened teams.

DON’T FORGET YOU CAN VOTE FOR YOUR MAN OF THE MATCH.
