In the quaint location of Clarence Park, Peterborough got their domestic friendly schedule under way with a convincing win over non-league St Albans City.

Darren Ferguson joining those struck down with a flu like virus wasn`t at Ckarence Park but with his squad having returned from the pre-season fitness jaunt to Marbella, Kevin Russell took the opportunity to give the majority of those who travelled to Hertfordshire, the chance for some much needed fairly competitive action.

Absent from the squad though were Lewis, Zakuani, Mackail-Smith, McLean, Boyd and Whelpdale.

However, in a four goal romp it was Ben Wright, our signing from Hampton and Richmond Borough last season, who gave Darren Ferguson some positive food for thought with a hat trick.

In front of a crowd of approximately 350, Wright took nine minutes to open the scoring, turning in a Charlie Lee cross from close range.

His second came after some fine work from newly signed Tommy Rowe. Wright rounded the St Albans keeper and was subsequently tripped. He picked himself up, dusted himself down and sent the keeper the wrong way from his spot kick.

Posh could have had a third, just before half time, but Rene Howe was unfortunate to see his shot come back off the post.

As expected numerous changes were made at half time, allowing everybody to have some match time. It took Wright only seven minutes to complete his hat trick when he expertly controlled a cross at the far post and drove his shot home.

The opportunity existed for Posh to score a plethora of goals but Scott Rendell was particularly wasteful with two headers and it was left to young Billy Crook to finish off the scoring for the night in the 68th minute.

After a melee in the area, Crook remained clam to finish at the far post.

All in all the sort of performance that we`d have expected but fair play to the boys for getting the job done.
