Peterborough v Huddersfield (Preview)

After the 0-0 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion, in midweek, Posh get the chance to further push for a play-off place with a home fixture against Huddersfield Town this Saturday.

Two home games in the space of four days is not conducive to the pocket of your average man in the street, especially during these much-fabled ‘credit crunch’ times. But since when has the average man in the street ever been consulted about such matters.

Nevertheless, Darren Ferguson after his speech about no team having out-played Posh this season will be keen to make sure a further two points are not dropped against a side that shipped 5 goals on their last away match, on Wednesday night against Hartlepool.

That fact and that fact alone should give Ferguson hope that his exciting forwards can get amongst the goals and throw off the shackles of Tuesday evening.

In fact, it’s up front that Ferguson may be tempted to change things. Aaron McLean has recovered from his dislocated elbow and will be looking to start after coming on as a substitute in the last two fixtures. Is it time to resurrect the striking partnership that propelled Posh to promotion last season?

Another in the mix to play, if Ferguson decides to shake things up, will be Micah Hyde. The Posh club captain has been sparingly used this season and will be raring to be let off the leash. Do you think the time is right to start with Micah?

But what about the visitors?

Huddersfield are in sixteenth position with thirteen points from the twelve games and have a negative goal difference. Their top scorers are Liam Dickinson with six goals, Gary Roberts with five goals and Michael Flynn with five goals.

Managed by Stan Ternent, Huddersfield supporters, if you delve into the various fans forums, are not too impressed with Ternent suggesting he’s living on borrowed time, even though he’s only had six months in the job.

Ternent himself has spoken out about the defeat at Hartlepool blaming defensive errors and remarking,

‘In 30 years-plus as a manager, you look at it and think ‘I can’t believe what I’m seeing’.’

‘I’ve just got to keep working away and pick them up for Saturday.’

Here at Vital Posh, we’re always prepared to go out on a limb and there’s no way we can contemplate another 0-0. Huddersfield will be keen to keep things tighter after conceding five last time out but keeping a clean sheet against the likes of Mackail-Smith, Boyd and McLean is another matter. So, thinking logically (but with a slight Posh bias) we’re going for a 3-1 home win!
