Despite the attraction of cheap tickets, London Road only had a disappointing 5980 in it when the FA Cup 2nd round tie with Tranmere Rovers kicked off this afternoon.

Perhaps the non-attendees had a premonition that today was going to be one of those days, that today Posh were to under-perform on the very day that they could have secured a definite place in the 3rd round and a possible tie against one of the big boys of the Premier League.

Nevertheless, we didn`t lose and I guess we should offer our thanks to Joe Lewis who kept us in the cup with a magnificent late save to deny Ian Moore as Tranmere threatened to win their fist FA Cup tie against us in five attempts.

Indeed, if Lewis doesn`t walk off with our man-of-the-match poll award I`ll be amazed because Joe also made crucial saves early on from Ian Moore and Steve Jennings.

I`d hazard a guess our visitors couldn`t quite believe how poor we were in the first half when we never really got going and our midfield kept losing possession. Thankfully, the introduction of Shaun Batt, for the second half saw a slight improvement.

We started to enjoy more possession but I can`t recall us seriously testing Danny Coyne in the Tranmere goal.

Perhaps we should look on the bright side though. We`re still in the cup, we`ve not lost our unbeaten run and the prospect of a replay, when we know our next opposition, could spur us on to do the job at the second attempt.
