A dramatic night at London Road saw Posh move to within one point of second place MK Dons.

Prior to the fixture, Darren Ferguson had warned just how tough a proposition Carlisle United would be and he was right.

The visitors were resolute and hard to break down and, for most of the match, more than held their own.

Indeed, it took some smart saves from Joe Lewis to prevent the Cumbrian side from taking the lead with our young keeper having his third good game in succession.

Thankfully, that vital breakthrough did eventually come for Posh and it came from the scoring boots of Aaron McLean.

McLean is in a rich vein of form and with sixty-nine minutes on the clock he notched up his sixteenth goal of the campaign and his fifth in five games finishing from inside the box.

Sadly, although the three points will be most welcome as we prepare for the visit of Southend United this Saturday, Darren Ferguson will be ruing the loss of two of his players through injury.

As early as the seventeenth minute London Road was reduced to a worrying silence as the medics tendered to a prone Gabriel Zakuani as the centre half lay stricken after crashing awkwardly following a challenge and the sight of the medics preparing to carry him away, tending to him for seven minutes was not a pretty sight.

However, Zakuani`s misfortune was Shane Blackett`s good luck with the defender coming back into first team action for the first time after sustaining a second shoulder dislocation in the corresponding match up at Carlisle.

Just before half-time, Posh lost a second player when recent signing, Lee Frecklington, was take off with a hamstring strain.

Our resources may be a little stretched after last night but the team spirit is top class and perhaps that second place really is there for the taking.

Disappointingly, the attendance fell far short of the expected level of 7,000 quoted as an average figure for the season by Darragh MacAnthony with only 5,103 inside London Road.

Come on folks, let`s have more of you inside the quaint old ground this Saturday, the team deserves it.
