Craig Mackail-Smith`s 25th goal of the season, in the 25th minute, was enough to give Posh all three points as they maintained their drive towards automatic promotion.

The win ensures their fate remains in their own hands, wins away to Colchester and at home to Swindon will ensure back-to back promotions for a club that has come so far in such a short space of time.

Hopefully the result will go some way to eliminating the recent blips, against Cheltenham and Millwall, from the system as our 46 game campaign turns into a two mammoth cup finals to ensure our dreams are realised.

Posh, understandably, looked a little nervy before the goal, from Mackail-Smith, settled their nerves and what an exquisite goal it was.

Aaron McLean slipped a ball through to Mackail-Smith and as the keeper advanced the ex-Dagenham and Redbridge striker, coolly lifted it over the advancing keeper and into the net.

However, if Posh believed that goal would open the floodgates they were wrong. Despite having a plethora of on-target shots, Stockport, in the second half, almost produced a shock equaliser.

Joe Lewis could only parry a free kick from Leon McSweeney and from the rebound Oli Johnson’s vicious strike hit the cross bar. Could that be the bit of luck that Posh will look back on as a deciding moment?

Next weekend, we`re all off to Essex to take on Colchester United. A win will put us in a great position to welcome Swindon Town to London Road for the mother of all games.

Fingers crossed everyone.
