A solitary goal from Chris Whelpdale, his fourth of the season, was enough to give Posh all three points against Walsall.

However, the score line doesn`t tell the true story.

If you look at the statistics for the game you`ll see that, shots wise, it was all one way traffic with only a brilliant display from the Walsall keeper, Clayton Ince, stopping the Saddlers from returning the Midlands after suffering a hammering.

Sadly, only days after in excess of ten thousand crammed into London Road to see our exploits against West Bromwich Albion, just over 5,700 chose to return for this fixture. I know there`s a recession but come on folks we`re heading for promotion here!

One can only hope that the missing thousands have chosen to spend what little cash they have on Tuesday when the MK Dons come to Cambridgeshire for what promises to be a vital encounter after Roberto Di Matteo`s side lost 3-2 up at Carlisle after leading 2-0 at half time.

Interestingly, another of our promotion rivals, Oldham, were emphatically hammered by Hereford thereby making it a good day for Posh who climb into fourth place and could, if they beat MK Dons on Tuesday night, go a point behind our Buckinghamshire rivals.

So what of the game, well it was effectively decided as early as the sixth minute when a Charlie Lee throw-in was helped on by Craig Mackail-Smith for Whelpdale to stab home from close range.

After that, as we`ve previously mentioned, it was the Clayton Ince show with the Trinidadian keeper producing good saves to keep out, amongst others, Aaron McLean and George Boyd before the break and Boyd and Mackail-Smith after the break.

With regards to Mackail-Smith`s opportunity, the striker who needs one goal to equalise last years total may feel he could have done better when one-on-one with the keeper, but such is life.

Now we`ve three days to prepare for the game of the season, so far, and a clash with the high-flying MK Dons, this is shaping up to be a memorable season.
