In a tight encounter at London Road this afternoon, Posh ensured their promotion charge was kept on the rails thanks to a narrow 2-1 win over Colchester United.

Thankfully, Joe Lewis was able to take up his usual place between the sticks and new boy Crofts was afforded a place on the substitutes bench. In front of a crowd in excess of 7400, it was to prove to be a tight first half.

In fact the visitors must have gone into the break pondering just where there luck was. In the first thirty-five minutes they lost both White and Heath to injuries and troubled the home defence thanks to the industry of Platt and Easter.

However, as the half looked like it was going to end without either side breaking the deadlock, our top scorer, Craig Mackail-Smith, came to the rescue. In injury time George Boyd the flicked the ball over Jackson before Mackail-Smith ran on to rifle his shot past Gerken in the visitors goal.

The second half was a little more entertaining for Posh fans but Colchester, as in the first half, were lively and it came as no real surprise when they equalised through the dangerous Platt.

Platt, an ex-Posh player, scored with a close range header after a good cross from Perkins. Thankfully any despair was short-lived when two minutes later Boyd restored the lead with a left footed low drive from twelve yards.

Colchester were to then suffer another blow when a further defender, Hills, a replacement for White in the first half, also picked up an injury.

A good result for us but I guess we could have done without Leicester, Leeds and MK Dons also winning!
