Posh – A Game Lasts 90 Minutes!

Probably the biggest gripe with regards to our midweek win at Orient was the relatively poor performance in the second half compared to that we gave in the first half.

Whilst the first half saw us accelerate to a 3-1 lead, the second half saw us almost let the Londoners back into it.

Indeed, in his post match interview, Darren Ferguson made a point of mentioning the poor performance.

Therefore, it has come as no surprise that on the eve of a vital fixture, the trip to Hartlepool, Darren has insisted that he`s looking for a ninety minute display to eradicate any fears of a collapse.

Also, Darren will be very aware that Hartlepool won at London Road earlier this season and he doesn`t want the name of Hartlepool to be added to that of Southend as the only team to have done the double over us.

Indeed, in his pre-match interview, Darren has mentioned that the early goals we scored may be beneficial forcing teams to come at us and therefore suiting our quick counter attacking style, anyway this is what he had to tell local reporters,

‘We have been starting games ever so well lately.”

‘We scored in the sixth minute at Orient and at home against Southend and it was even earlier when we got our goal at Hereford.”

‘Getting going in games is something we spoke about after the away match at Tranmere – a night when we didn’t come out of the traps quickly.”

‘We didn’t start well when we were beaten at Huddersfield either and that gave those teams something to hang on to.”

‘We want to be in a position where the other team has to chase the game because that can really suit our style of playing on the counter.”

‘The main thing at this time of year is results, but as a manager I have to stay on top of the players because performances like we produced in the second half at Orient won’t always get those results.”

‘It is not very often that I have to be critical of my players and I’m not saying anything publicly that I haven’t already told them.”

‘I felt we missed a great opportunity the other night to send a signal out to the rest of the league. As it was, we won the game anyway and that is what I wanted at the start of the day.’

It`s always great to win games but nothing can beat winning games in style and as usual Darren makes perfectly good sense.
