Posh – A Wide Gulf?

I arrived home a disappointed man last night.

Despite all our efforts I couldn`t help feeling that West Brom were a superior side to us and that they deserved to progress through to round four to face Burnley.

Perhaps our best chance was up at the Hawthorns when, after equalising, we looked to be pushing for a winner.

But what makes the whole scenario of losing last night so mind-numbing is the fact that whilst there are currently two divisions between ourselves and West Bromwich Albion, if our fortune matches our desire and West Brom (as expected) fall from the Premier League, then we`ll both be occupants of the Championship next season.

It`s a thought not lost on Darren Ferguson who, during his post match interview, was obviously thinking along the same lines when he remarked,

“It`s no good saying they are a Premier League team because we could be playing them next season – and at the moment we`re well short.”

Perhaps one small consolation is that if the scenario does unfold as we`ve predicted, there`s no doubt that West Brom will be amongst the better of the Championship sides whereas we`d, almost certainly, be looking at consolidation.
