Strange that our reported request to Grimsby Town to sign their promising youngster, Ryan Bennett, didn`t come to nothing.

According to reports we got short shrift from their manager, Mike Newell, who is desperate to hang onto his nineteen year old captain.

Indeed, it seems that Newell`s demand for at least a £1 million for the young defender was enough to frighten us away with Fry commenting,

‘The manager has identified a couple of players that he wanted and he spoke to Grimsby Town manager Mike Newell who told him that the lad was out of contract.’

‘But then I spoke to the chairman who informed me that he wasn’t available, and that the Mariners wouldn’t be interested in selling him, not even for £1million.”

‘So, we agreed to end the discussions there and respected the club’s decision.”
