Over in Marbella, the pre-season work continues in earnest.
We understand that the players have been playing in temperatures that would make you wince and have also been doing a fair bit of gym work.
Obviously, Darren appears to be cracking the whip as he gets his squad in tip-top shape and when approached on the subject, by the local media, our manager emphasised that fitness levels have won us many a point in the last two campaigns, remarking,
“There’s no doubt in my mind that our fitness has won us many points over the last two seasons and it might be even more important in the Championship.”
‘My players have great ability, but there is no doubt their fitness gives them an extra edge. I was very pleased with the shape the players were in when they returned for pre-season training and they’ve worked hard since they came back.”
‘It’s certainly not easy over here. We are training at nine in the morning and late in the afternoon to avoid the worst of the heat, but its excellent preparation as the last two seasons have shown.”
With a fixture, albeit non-competitive, against Rochdale this evening, it`ll be interesting to see what sort of feedback is received, especially as the game is being played away from the glare of the public.
