Are Peterborough United looking to snatch Tom Pope from Port Vale ahead of the transfer deadline?

National newspapers are reporting that Posh boss Darren Ferguson is keen to do a late deal for the Vale forward who has scored 27 goals so far this season.

Pope was linked with Posh a while ago but Darragh MacAnthony, the Posh Chairman, played down any rumours that Posh were interested.

The 27-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season though and media reports suggest Posh have rekindled their interest and are close to securing a deal. His current deal with Vale had a clause built in which offered the forward an extension when he hit his 15th goal of the season but he has yet to agree a deal.

The reports say Posh are hoping to get Pope for a cut-price £50,000 which would be worth a punt given Posh have now slumped back to the bottom of the Championship and may not have to pay massive wages to bring the player in.
