I doubt whether it was Darren Ferguson`s intention to throw Shane Blackett back into first team action so early on Tuesday night.

After a five month lay-off, courtesy of that dislocated shoulder at Carlisle and only seventy minutes of comeback action in the reserves against Luton Town last week, perhaps it was only ever intended for Shane to have a ten minute cameo appearance.

So, when Gabriel Zakuani was carried away on a stretcher, Shane must have, although naturally disappointed at seeing a comrade depart in such a manner, been as excited as a kid at Christmas.

After the game, Radio Cambridgeshire spoke to Shane and the defender told of how the team is prepared for the run-in ahead as well as discussing the frustration of being injured.

Here`s what Shane had to say,

‘We’re coming to the business part of the season now, hopefully I can make an impact on the team.”

‘We’re in a great position to get promotion automatically.’

‘The players believe it, the management believe it and the fans are starting to believe it as well. The unity in the dressing room is brilliant.’

And as for that injury,

‘I’ve been kicking every ball and heading every ball from the stands, so to be playing again is a delight.’

Welcome back Shane, let the fun begin!
